It was inevitable so came as little surprise to those of who’ve had dealings with opponents of sickness benefit reforms. Bullying, abuse, emotional blackmail, threats (both physical and legal) ……the list goes on. It’s strange how those preaching care, compassion and tolerance actually lack these qualities when engaging with supporters of benefit reform.
Welfare reformers,IDS,Chris Grayling, and Maria Miller have all been subjected to internet forum abuse that would, if repeated in public rather than from behind the anonymity of a keyboard, possibly result in prosecution. It’s been left to Atos to take a stand and challenge the hardcore extremists who believe they can insult individuals and companies with impunity. Due to potentially libellous and defamatory postings directed towards the company it has been necessary for Atos issue legal warnings, resulting in at least two websites/forums being closed down. Let’s hope these people learn their lesson and moderate their tone. If not, they can’t say they weren’t warned .
When contacted by eWEEK Europe, Atos Healthcare was unapologetic about the inconvenience caused, and defended the campaign to take down websites which damage the company’s reputation.
“Atos Healthcare is committed to delivering high quality services to all users of our services and we take seriously any incidents where these standards are not maintained,” said Atos in a statement emailed to eWEEK Europe.
“While we fully support the right of people to express their opinions, it is our duty to protect the reputation of our employees and company against false and malicious allegations. In such circumstances, we will look to take any necessary steps to ensure that these unsupported claims are addressed swiftly and appropriately.”
